World War 1 Prisoners of War

My grandfather served in the Italian Army in World War I. He was taken prisoner by the Austro-Hungarians at Caporetto. The International Red Cross has opened a database of all WW1 prisoners; however, the Italians are not listed there. I recently read that the records of the Italian and Austro-Hungarian prisoners were kept elsewhere; perhaps in Rome or even the Vatican. Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

Hi and welcome to this forum!

I know that the Vatican Secret Archives has documents only on prisoners of WWII not WWI.

Yes, it's always a work in progress, we must wait..

Have you already asked for his military record?
