Hello fellow friends! I am a brazilian medical doctor, my name is Gabriel. My Italian is quite bad, and though I could write in portuguese, I probably have a better chance of being understood writing in english. I am sorry to have to write in english in an Italian forum.

Me and me family are starting the process of obtaining European citzenship. All four of my great-grandparents are Italian. We chose one road and we have all documents, except one: my great grandpa birth, in Italy. All of our documents of him (marriage, death) state simply "Italy", not disclosing any further information of where he lived! We needed some info on where he lived, so we could maybe find his birth certificate.

I came to know about this forum in groups of people going trough the same process. I don't ask any of you to do this work for me but to please, if you can, help me where to find this information. Maybe providing links, phone numbers, sites I can investigate, I don't know. Some agents are proposing to do this work for me but they want a lot of money and it feels kind of predatory as they'll probably use databases that anyone can have acess. I made sure to check this site for the surname, but could'nt get info.

My great grampa is called Angelo Sanzovo, and married my great grandma Carlota Minetto Sanzovo in 29 of July of 1899, in São Paulo, Brazil. He died November, 9, 1963, also in Brazil. I have documents of everything. His parents were called Angelo Sperandio Sanzovo and Erminia Zanini. My great grandma parents were called Angelo Minetto and Anastazia Valvassori.

Edit: how stupid of me not telling when he was born! By our estimates, his birth has to be around 1879, since he was 84 when he died in 1963.

Also shocking in our current culture to see marriages lasting 60 years! A thing of beauty.

I had a look around and it's seems that your great grandparent surname "Sanzovo" is extinguished
in Italy.
Sperandio and Zanini are two common surnames in Northern Italy (especially in Veneto region).
It's not sure but probably your father-line ancestors came from that area.
Also Minetto and Valvassori are typical northern surname in Italy...
Unfortunately if you don't know precisely the town of origin of your family, it's pretty complicated to reach the goal...but not impossible.
I would focus the researches on Erminia Zanini (who probably was born between 1840 and 1860) trying to identify the date of her marriage with Angelo Sperandio-Sanzovo during the next decades.
The main problem is where and in which town...
As I said it's complicated.
The only thing you can do is checking all the towns birth-records in Veneto for example, looking for the birth date of Erminia Zanini (starting from the villages and towns in the province of Treviso where Zanini is a widespread surname).
It's a long and boring job but I guess there's no way out.

Per caso sai quando e con chi Angelo è arrivato in Brasile? Hai trovato la lista dei passeggeri della nave con cui è arrivato? A volte nelle liste c'è la provenienza.

Per fare una ricerca intorno a Treviso, potresti scrivere alla Cancelleria della diocesi. Conservano i registri di cresima e chiedono 50 euro per fare una ricerca. Vedi

No caso da impossibilidade de ter dados certos para encontrar a paróquia, o Arquivo histórico diocesano pode realizar uma pesquisa indireta nos registros da Crisma (os únicos que a diocese possui) para tentar a individuação da paróquia de proveniência da pessoa. É preciso saber que os registros de Crisma são limitados aos anos 1862 – 1918. Esta pesquisa, mesmo com um êxito negativo, pede o pagamento de uma taxa de euros 50,00 que tem que ser feito ao seguinte código IBAN: IT93C0306912050100000000383 - BIC: BCITITMM, indicando como finalidade: “Pesquisa registros de Crisma, N.N.”.

Tieni presente però che la diocesi non concide con la provincia di Treviso; alcune parrocchie sono in diocesi di Padova (Valdobbiadene) o di Vittorio Veneto (Farra di Soligo, Santa Lucia di Piave).

Hey mmogno, thank you again. I have the immigration data, but no luck on the provinces there either! Angelo came in 1889 with his parents and brothers, reported age 9.

The church registers are for information before 1871, right? Guess I'll start trying to find Angelo's birth directly, circa 1878-1880. If I fail, then it should be an interesting resource to try and find Erminia's data.

I'll start emailing the 150 comunis at Venetto and Treviso... =(

Puoi postare il link ai dati di immigrazione del 1889? Potrebbe essere utile sapere i nomi dei fratelli di Angelo, per ricercare anche loro nelle raccolte dei registri di Stato Civile, in particolare se sono incomplete. Metti a disposizione tutte le informazioni che hai, potrebbero servire!!

E' vero che i certificati di Stato Civile legalizzati devono essere chiesti ai Comuni, per atti successivi al 1871, ma le parrocchie e la diocesi hanno anche i registri canonici successivi a quella data.

Io ti consiglierei di chiedere alla diocesi di Treviso se trovano Angelo nei loro registri delle cresime. Se lo trovano, poi basta chiedere il certificato di nascita al Comune in cui si trova la parrocchia dove è stato cresimato. Se invece non lo trovano, basterebbe chiedere ai Comuni adiacenti a Farra di Soligo, Valdobbiadene, Santa Lucia del Piave, escludendo quelli che sono in diocesi di Treviso.
Non sono poi così tanti....

Some of the registers are a little bit off. Not all ages match and not all relations are true. For instance, I believe Angelo is listed as "nephew" - "sobrinho" - when he should be listed as grandson. But they are indeed informative.

I got a hot clue from a third-party, unknown to me, but also a Sanzovo and fellow brazilian, that this part of my family is from Santa Lucia de Piave, in Treviso. Made me extremelly happy. Do any of you know how to reach the registers of this city? Which e-mail should I try to contact? nasceu em 17/04/1879 e faleceu em Águas de Santa Bárbara/SP em 12/04/1941.

Angelo Minetto nasceu em ??/04/1842 e faleceu em 27/09/1910 em Dois Córregos/SP.
Anastacia Valvassori nasceu em 1842, casaram-se em Portogruaro em 1863.
