I have found an ancestor who died aged 20 on 20th October 1944 in the death records of Pietrasanta, Lucca.

He was called Salvatore Carducci and he was the son of Natale Carducci and Maria Macchiarini.

His death record states he died from shrapnel wounds from a grenade.

I've looked on Caduti Guerra (2) but that doesn't give much information.

Would there be anything available online about him, or the incident?

I don't even know if he was a civilian or a soldier?

Carducci Salvatore was born in 1924, maybe you can find more info in his military records.
Keep in mind that offices could be now closed due to this emergency.

You can request a copy of his enlistment record "Liste di leva" to the Florence State Archives:

It is essential to provide: surname, name, name of his parents, place (municipality) and date of birth

or ask commune of Pietrasanta for Liste di leva, they should have a copy too.

Instead a copy of his enrollment record "Ruolo matricolare" to the Lucca State Archives:
