Hi,

My ancestors' lived in Colognora di Val di Roggio, Pescaglia, Lucca from about 1820.

I know that their birth (baptism), marriage and death (burial) records are kept at the Archivio Storico in Lucca.

However, they don't have any census records for Colognora, and they have suggested that these may still be kept at the church.

I don't speak Italian, and I have been told that most priests in Italy know very little English, if any at all.

Could some kind person on here phone the church to ask if they do have any census records, and how I can obtain copies of the original pages from the register?

(A while back the owner of the local museum in Colognora photographed documents at the Archivio Storico in Lucca for me - perhaps he could help)?

I am looking for census records of Iacopo Mazzei (c.1788-1850) and his widow Rosa Mazzei (maiden name Guazzelli) (c.1785-1870) from 1820-1870.

Also their son Luigi Mazzei (c.1809-1876) and his widow Rosa Mazzei (maiden name Lombardi) (1810-1881) (married in 1832).

Also Maria Diomira Ricci (maiden name Mazzei) - married Giuseppe Ricci in 1843.

Also Maria Adelaide Frati (maiden name Mazzei) - married Anselmo Frati in 1875.

These are the details for the church (unless the priest has changed):

Hi again Darin..
Could some kind person on here phone the church to ask if they do have any census records, and how I can obtain copies of the original pages from the register?
I've tried to call but, unfortunately, the number 0583/950015 is non-existent and the number 0583/35803 is busy or disconnected.

Why don't you try to make a written request? Also in English, certainly he will avail himself of some translators.
The correct address is:
Via Alfredo Catalani
55064
Pescaglia, località Colognora, LU‎.
(A while back the owner of the local museum in Colognora photographed documents at the Archivio Storico in Lucca for me - perhaps he could help)?
Lastly, if you get no answer from the church, who lives in Colognora could help you better.

Hi Erica

Thanks for trying.

I would have asked Senor Frati from the museum, but I don't want to seem like a pest.

Thanks again

Darin.
