The person I am asking for help with is Angelo Lisotto. The letter I received from my father regarding him, written by his father Vincent, reads as follows:
"My Dad - Born - 1881 in a town called Reggio in Province of Calabria - Baptized Angelo Lisotto (Read on) Came to U.S.A. early 1900s through Ellis Island Settled in New Haven Ct where Italian Immigrants had formed a town of there (sic) own. He got into some trouble in New Haven and at that point changed his name to Ferraro, not legally of course. Met my mother (Concetta Rasso) around 1903 and they got married, moved to West Springfield, then Springfield Mass... Passed away May 18, 1950.
The family story goes on to say that he jumped ship coming into Ellis Island and swam ashore. I have not been able to confirm or deny this.
His WW1 and WW2 registration cards say his birth date is 1883, I have been trying to locate more information on him, to no avail.
To the best of my knowledge, Lisotto is a northern Italian name.
I have records of him since he came to th U.S., but nothing beforehand.
Any aid which can be given would be greatly appreciated. If you have read this far, Grazie
