Firstly may I apologize for my lack of Italian language skills. I am writing from England and although it seems I have Italian ancestry I am embarrassed to say my Italian is non existent. I will attempt a rough Google translation in the hope that it will help.

Could anyone help me with a search for information on a Giovanni Battista Vaccari. He was born approximately 1811 in Italy. He is my 4x Great grandfather who arrived in England 30th June 1837 to start a new life. He is listed on his Immigration document as a "Musician" and arrived with a man called Lorenzo Denagri. They came to the port of London from Boulogne but I do not know which ship they arrived on or where they came from before then. (There is a rumor of Venice).

In the English 1861 census Giovanni is married with 4 children. He has 3 musicians from Italy living in his house as lodgers one of whom he states is his cousin. Michael Denagri - Cousin, Joseph Ferguna and Francis Bratasani.

Giovanni appears to change his name through the English census's being listed as VACCARI, VACCARI-WALKER & WALKER as well as VACCARI being spelled various ways.

I am looking for any information regarding his life/family before coming to England or any information regarding the ship or border crossings. Could someone please help?

Here you can find the actual spreading of the lastnames you're talking about, Brattesani is a rare lastname, present in Borgo Val di Taro, Parma province , Emilia Romagna region.

Thank you for the reply and for the valuable information. It certainly seems like both he and his acquaintances are from northern Italy. One of Giovanni's daughters Ann Vaccari marries a Germia Sparvieri from Venice. His other Daughter Elizabeth marries Andra Andreola.

I have lots of information from when he arrives in England, I would love to know more about where he came from.

In addiction, the name Giovanni Battista can be found in area around Genoa, because is the Saint patron of the city; in the same way, also the surname De Negri is common in this area... So, maybe the families you are looking for came from Genoa.

Ps: maybe your "Germia" is "Geremia".

I have now found that on a census for 1871 this man put Genoa, Italy as his birth place. I have found that he lived in the same house in England for 40 years!!

I have also located his grave. He is in the same burial plot as his wife.
