Use of title "Mag" - what does it mean?

Hello again,

This is the marriage record of my 5th great-grandfather, Antonino Carmelo Barone from 1751. I see that the record has him listed as "Mag" before his name. Is this short for Magister or teacher? What would that title indicate about his status at this time?

I can see that he is the son of Vincenzo Barone and Dorotea lo Tedio and his wife is Battistina Barrera, daughter of Giorgio Barrera and Pasqua Manara but that's about all I can read.

If there is anything else interesting in there, I'd love to know! Thank you!

L'abbreviazione "Mag." poteva indicare la parola "Magister" oppure, a volte, "Magnifici".
In questo caso mi sembra che dopo Mag. ci sia una piccola R, per cui dovrebbe essere proprio Magister.
Da quel che so, però, non era da intendere come maestro (insegnante), ma come "maestro artigiano", cioè esperto in qualche arte.

"Mag." could stand for "Magister", or, sometimes, for "Magnifici".
It this case there seems to be a little "r" after "Mag", so, that should stand for "magister".
However, that should not mean "teacher", but "master craftsman" (an expert of some handicraft)
